For the past 5 years I have been tutoring 1L Loyola, USC, Pepperdine and Southwestern law school students. I love what I do and as a result I have helped my students reach their goals. Goals are as diverse as the people that hold them, but what each of my students have had in common was an aim to perform well in their first year of law school. Several of my students have landed in the top percentage of their classes, some have negotiated scholarships, a few landed 1L summer jobs, several landed paid 2L summer associate positions in BIG LAW and others have opted to transfer to higher tier law schools such UCLA, USC, Michigan and Berkeley.
In this blog I will share with readers how students I work with achieve desirable results. However, the main goal of this Blog is to encourage all 1L's remain motivated during their entire 1L career. Law School is challenging and I have seen my students deal with the roller coaster that is the law school experience.
I graduated from Boalt in 2007. Many students want to know why I do not practice law. The truth is that I did not like the work of an attorney but I have always loved teaching. After law school I went back to teaching for the school district but have always worked with law students during the semester. What drives me is working with a student who really wants to be an attorney, is willing to do the hard work but may not have the resources of family members or close friends that can give them inside information. For my students I am their source of insider information into law school, 1L law classes and specifically the 1L law school exam.
I work with students privately during the Fall and Spring semester and occasionally will prepare a 0L for Fall semester if they are truly motivated. In years when I have the grant money I work with several 0Ls over the summer free of charge.
